Botswana Equity Watch | 4 Sept 2015: Botswana equity markets remains in bearish mood, DCI down -46.00bps, LASI down, FCI flat….

Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- The BSE Equity Markets remained in bearish mood as the DCI, LASI and DFSI saw downward movements and the FCI remaining flat with no change in todays trading.

The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by -46.00 points to close at 10,840.61 points falling by -0.43 percent from its previous close of 10,887.21 points.

Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a downward change after the days trading closing at 798.13 down -0.44 points from its previous close of 798.57 a change of -0.05% (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).

The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) recorded no change after the days trading closing at 1569.21 points.

The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies ended at 1242.69 points recording a downward change of -1.90 points or decreasing -0.15 percent after the days trading.

The market capitalisation settled at BWP 421,545.01 at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,387,94 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,157.15 million.

From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 1,649,719 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 5,257,787.54 million.

The market activity in terms of the traded volumes were lead by LETSHEGO  which recorded volume figures of 4,704,487.20 followed by FNBB with 363,180.15 and CHOPPIES with 76,935.00.

In terms of price gainers and price losers there were five price gainers and no price losers today, BIHL was up 1 point to close at BWP 1440 per share, FSG was up 2 points to close at BWP 271 per share, NAP was up 3 points to close at BWP 245 per share and SEFALANA was up 1 point to close at BWP 1276 per share.
