Tanzania Equity Watch | 27 July 2015: Investors lose US$9.3 million on Tanzania Stock Markets … indices marginally fall

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Trading at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange began the week on a negative note. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) declined by 2.21 points or 0.09 percent to close at 2,579.50 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 9.14 points or 0.20 percent to end at 4,531.63 points. Likewise, Banks, Finance & Investment sector index went down by 26.85 points or 0.88 percent to settle at 3,012.96 but the industrial & Allied sector index advanced by 1.49 points or 0.02 percent at 6,066.72 points. However, Commercial Services sector index remained flat to end at 3,953.28 points.

The market capitalization gave up almost TZS 19 billion (about US$9.3 million) to end at TZS 22,570 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,589 billion recorded at previous trading session.

On Monday, the Dar es Salaam Stock recorded a total turnover of TZS 63.27 million from 76,162 shares traded in 63 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,771.09 million from 148,676 shares traded in 44 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited had 2,000 traded shares; CRDB traded 62,612 shares and News Media Group 9,550 shares exchanged hands.

The market strength/breathe ended negative today, with 1 gainers and 3 losers. Tanzania Breweries Limited was the lone gainer with an increase of 0.07 percent to close at TZS 14,520.0. On the other hand, the three losers were CRDB ended at TZS 395 after losing 1.25 percent, News Media Group plunged by 0.69 percent to settle at TZS 2,880.00 and Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited fell by 0.53 percent to conclude at TZS 3,780.00.
