Morocco Equity Markets | 22 Oct 2015: Morocco Casablanca stock exchange deplete by US$192 million, indices down

Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa —The bear continued to tormenting the Casablanca Stock Exchange equity at the end of Thursday’s trading session. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) sagged by 0.46 percent to end at 8,944.08 points (with a year-to-date performance to -7.03 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 451.124 billion (a decrease of MAD 1.8 billion or US$192 million relatively to the previous market capitalization of MAD 452.963  billion).

The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 33.290 million compared to MAD 38.296  million recorded at the previous trading session.

In the same negative sentiment, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,307.40 points (waned by 0.45 percent compared to the previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index lost 0.38 percent to close at 7,832.91 points (-11.20 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index sagged by 0.36 percent to end at 7,541.82 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -6.44 percent).

In term of sector indices, top gainers were Chemicals, Holding Companies and Electrical & Elcetronic sector indices surged by 4.69 percent, 4.37 percent and 2.48 percent respectively. On the other hand, Construction & Building sector index (lost 2.33 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -0.21 percent), Mining sector index (sagged by 2.12 percent to end at -6.71 percent year-to-date return) and Engineering & Equipment sector index (fell by 1.12 percent to end at 280.14 levels).

Looking at the market price gainers and losers, the gainers’ were SNEP advanced by 5.99 percent to end at MAD 96.79 and DELTA Holdings went up by 4.45 percent to trade at MAD 22.99. NEXANS MAROC also added 2.48 percent or MAD 3.50 with a closing price of MAD 144.50 as well as ALLIANCES Limited rose by 2.10 percent to end at MAD 31.94.

On the losers’ region, CMD and STROC INDUSTRIE slumped by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 430.85) and fell by 5.96 percent (to trade at MAD 44.20) respectively. HOLCIM MAROC and M2M Group also slid by 6.95 percent (with a closing price of MAD 1,786.00) and skid by 5.92 percent (to settle at MAD 212.50) respectively.
