Morocco Market Watch | May 27th 2015: Moroccan equity indices extend down trend, lose MAD 2.2bn
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) lost by 0.44 percent to close at 9,588.13 points (-0.33 percent year-to-date performance) with total market capitalization at MAD 482.893 billion (decreased by MAD 2.3 billion compared to previous trading sessions) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 270.182 million (an increase of 443 percent relative to previous day market turnover). Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,836.22 points (declined by 0.49 percent compared to previous trading day). In addition, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index fell by 0.39 percent to close at 8,426.13 points (-4.47 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index plummeted by 0.44% to end at 8,018.86 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -0.52 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Beverages, Electricity, and Investment Companies & Other Finance sector indices rose by 2.02 percent, 0.76 percent, and 0.43 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Chemicals (lost 2.30 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -37.72 percent), distributions (declined by 1.50 percent and 7.82 percent year-to-date return) and Forestry & Paper sector indices (lost 1.35 percent and -44.84 percent year-to-date return).
The market sentiment was negative today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 10 advancers and 25 decliners. On the one hand, MAGHREBAIL Morocco gained 3.80 percent to end at MAD 800.00 and ENNALK Morocco advanced by 3.48 percent to settle at MAD 40.99. Also, BRASSERIES MAROC surged by 2.38 percent with closing price of MAD 2,280.00 as well as ALLIANCES advanced by 2.13 percent to close at MAD 97.00. On the other hand, MAGHREB OXYGENE Morocco, FENIE BROSSETTE, ZELLIDJA S.A., CENTRALE LAITIERE and MINIERE TOUISSIT Morocco went down by 10.00 percent (to settle at MAD 129.15), 6.00 percent (to end at MAD 126.90), 5.99 percent (with closing price of MAD 226.70), 4.85 percent (to settle at MAD 1,000.00) and 3.36 percent (to settle at MAD 1,150.00) respectively.
