Morocco Market Watch | June 9th 2015: Moroccan equity market extends bearish run, falls MAD 7 billion and index down 131 bps today
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- The bearish extends today at Morocco equity market. Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) fell by 1.31 percent to close at 9,595.92 points (with a year-to-date performance to -0.25 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 487.150 (lost MAD 6.88 billion compared to previous trading sessions market capitalization of MAD 494.036 billion) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 187.873 million (a rise of 430 percent from previous trading session of MAD 35.449 million). Equally, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,843.88 points (lost 1.44 percent compared to last previous trading session). In the same way, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index lost 1.22 percent to close at 8,410.13 points (-4.65 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index fell by 1.58 percent to end at 8,004.71 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.70 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Chemicals, Mining and Food Producers & Processors sector indices surged by 3.34 percent, 1.64 percent, and 1.03 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Engineering & Equipment (lost 5.98 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 0.75 percent), Telecommunications sector index (declined by 5.72 percent and -5.14 percent year-to-date return) and Forestry & Paper sector index (went down by 4.88 percent).
The market sentiment was negative today, the gainers’ were, ZELLIDJA S.A Morocco gained 5.99 percent to end at MAD 181.25 and CENTRALE LAITIERE Morocco advanced by 5.98 percent to settle at MAD 1,056.00. Likewise, SNEP surged by 5.43 percent with closing price of MAD 127.20 as well as ENNAKL advanced by 5.05 percent to conclude at MAD 40.98. While topping the losers’ table were MAGHREBAIL Morocco, NEXANS, ITISSALAT MAGHRIB and MAGHREB OXYGENE plummeted by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 752.00), 5.98 percent (to end at MAD 173.80), 5.72 percent (with closing price of MAD 107.95) and 4.92 percent (to settle at MAD 114.10) respectively.
