Tanzania Market Watch | June 23rd 2015: Tanzania equity market falls TSZ 435 billion and indices down

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) fell by 50.43 points or 1.77 percent to close at 2,796.65 points and market capitalization recorded at TZS 24,477 billion (a decrease of about TSZ 435 billion against previous trade session market cap of TSZ 24,911 billion). Also, the domestic Share Index plunged by 80.53 points or 1.68 percent to close at 4,712.88 points.

From the market activity angle, a total turnover of TZS 5,067.86 million from 5,385,096 shares traded in 124 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 8,381.78 million from 592,913 shares traded in 71 deals. On Tanzania Breweries Limited had 177,059 shares traded at 15,000 per share in 2 deals. CRDB had 5,000,000 shares traded at 435 per share in 1 deal. Also, CRDB had 169,875 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 430 per share in 75 deals. DCB Commercial Bank had 1,140 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 680 per share in 2 deals.

The market sentiment was positive today, with 7 losers and 1 gainer. UCHUMI SUPERMARKET gained 5.56 percent with a closing price of TSZ 190.00. On the losers, Tanzania Breweries Limited plunged by 3.33 percent to close at TSZ 14,500. Equally, KCB Group Limited went down 2.48 percent to close at TSZ 1,180 and CRDB Bank fell by 2.27 percent to settle at TSZ 430. Likewise, East African Breweries tumbled by 2.09 percent to conclude at TSZ 6,550 and Acacia Mining PLC plunged by 1.49 percent to end at TSZ 9,930.00.

From the sector perspective, Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index fell by 0.79 percent and Industrial & Allied sector index gained by 2.11 percent. However, Commercial Services sector index remained unchanged to end at 3,890.5 points
