Tanzania Equity Watch | 29 June 2015: Tanzania equity market drops TSZ 44.44 billion and indices down

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Tanzanian stock markets started the week on negative mood. The market capitalization dropped by TZS 44.44 billion to end at TZS 24,506 billion relative to TZS 24,550 recorded on Friday’s trading session.

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) fell by 5.53 points or 0.20 percent to close at 2,799.59 points. Also, the domestic Share Index plunged by 12.05 points or 0.26 percent to close at 4,696.63 points. Likewise, Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index fell by 0.99 percent and Commercial Services sector index lost 0.10 percent. However, Industrial & Allied sector index marginally surged by 0.03 percent to close at 6076.43 points.

From the market activity angle, a total turnover of TZS 136.73 million from 43,988 shares traded in 29 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 459.12 million from 430,086 shares traded in 56 deals. CRDB had 2,465 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 410 per share in 10 deals while DCB Commercial Bank had 420 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 680 per share in 2 deals. Furthermore, National Microfinance Bank had 753 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 3,470 per share in 5 deals and Tanzanian Breweries Limited had 200 shares traded at weighted average price of TZS 14,510 per share in 1 deal.

The market sentiment was negative today, with 5 losers and 4 gainers. KENYA AIRWAYS gained 7.14 percent with a closing price of TZS 200.00 and News Media Group added 5.50 percent to end at TZS 4,030.  Equally, UCHUMI SUPERMARKET Limited and Tanzania Portland Cement Company edged up by 5.26 percent and 0.29 percent to close at TZS 200.00 and TZS 3,500 respectively.

On the losers, CRDB Limited plunged by 2.38 percent to close at TSZ 410.00 and Acacia Mining PLC Limited went down 1.46 percent to close at TSZ 10,130. Likewise, East African Breweries fell by 0.31 percent to settle at TSZ 6,470 and NMB tumbled by 0.29 percent to conclude at TSZ 3,470.
