Tanzania Equity Markets | 16 Sep 2015 : Negative run persists, market cap US$34 Mill down …

DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — The Bear continued on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market on Wednesday and the equity market capitalization sagged by TZS 72.7 billion (about US$33.6 million) to end at TZS 22,248 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,321.11 billion recorded at previous trading session.

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) tumbled 9.86 points or 0.39 percent to end at 2,540.52 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index sagged by 32.61 points or 0.70 percent to close at 4,617.05 points.  

The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index plummeted by 0.47 percent to end at 2,980.38 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.80 percent or 13.99 points to close at 6,241.10 points and Commercial services sector slumped by 0.21 percent to settle at 4,049.52.

Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 80,677.41 million from 5,611,271 shares traded in 95 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,418.28 million from 137,423 shares traded in 99 deals. CRDB had 306,910 shares traded in 29 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 1,599 shares in 15 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 334,944 shares in 39 deals. Swala Gas Limited recorded 1,280 shares traded in 2 deals. TWIGA traded 1,860 shares in 2 deals and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 610 in 7 deals.  

On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with three gainers and 8 losers. Uchumi Supermarket Limited gained 16.67 percent to settle at TZS 210, KCB Group added 2.11 percent to close at TZS 970 and East Africa Breweries Limited traded at TZS 6,170 after surging by 0.98 percent.  On the other hand, the Tanzania Portland Cement Company (-7.65% at TZS 3,500), Kenya Airways (-4.17 % at TZS 115.00), Acacia Mining Limited (-2.71% at TZS 7,890), National Media Group (-2.44% at TZS 3,200) and Jubilee Holdings Limited (-1.80% at TZS 10,380).
