DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On Friday, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity closed the week on a positive mood. The equity market capitalization gathered TZS 235 billion (about US$109 million) to end at TZS 22341.58 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,106 billion recorded at previous trading session.

In the like mood, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) surged by 28.10 points or 1.13 percent to end at 2,552.49 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index also advanced by 4.59 points or 0.10 percent to close at 4,649.20 points.  

The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index lost 0.30 percent or 8.87 points to settle at 2,994.37 points. Industrial & Allied sector index gained 0.21 percent or 13.08 points to close at 6,290.74 points and Commercial services sector index gained 20.93 points or 0.52 percent to end at 4,057.90.

Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 271.87 million from 61,170 shares traded in 42 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 94.76 million from 114,912 shares traded in 67 deals. CRDB had 28,580 shares traded in 11 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 3,225 shares in 10 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 13,560 shares in 6 deals. DCB Commercial recorded 7,090 shares traded in 6 deals. Swala Tanzania traded 3,650 shares in 3 deals and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 5,005 in 5 deals.  

On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with 7 gainers and 4 losers. Acacia Mining Limited closed at TZS 8,170 after adding 4.74 percent to top the gainers’ table. National Media Group gained 1.83 percent to settle at TZS 3,340, Swissport Tanzania Limited surged by 0.66 percent to close at TZS 7,600 and National Microfinance Bank traded at TZS 2,900 after soaring by 0.35 percent. Tanzania Breweries Limited added 0.33 percent to close at TZS 15,200 and Jubilee Holdings Limited rose by 0.10 percent to end TZS 10,160.00.

On the other hand, Swala Tanzania Limited emerged as the top losers’ after losing 9.91 percent with a closing price of TZS 500 and Uchumi Supermarket Limited fell by 5.26 percent to settle at TZS 180. DCB Commercial Bank ended at TZS 600 after falling by 2.44 percent and CRDB declined by 1.28 percent to trade at TZS 385.00.
