DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On Thursday, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity ended in the negative region and the equity market capitalization went down about TZS 119 billion (about US$ 55 million) to end at TZS 22,106 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,225 billion recorded at previous trading session.

In the like mood, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 13.69 points or 0.54 percent to end at 2,524.39 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index also declined by 3.47 points or 0.07 percent to close at 4,644.61 points.  

The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index marginally lost 0.21 percent or 6.43 points to settle at 3,003.24 points. Industrial & Allied sector index also fell by 0.06 percent or 3.64 points to close at 6,277.66 points but Commercial services sector index gained 20.93 points or 0.52 percent to end at 4,036.97.

Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 94.76 million from 114,912 shares traded in 67 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 813.08 million from 1,944,310 shares traded in 58 deals. CRDB had 105,562 shares traded in 25 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 5,652 shares in 7 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 1,740 shares in 5 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 58 shares traded in 18 deals. DCB Commercial Limited traded 500 shares in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 1,005 in 6 deals.  

On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with 4 gainers and 4 losers. East Africa Breweries Limited closed at TZS 6,030 after adding 1.52 percent to top the gainers’ table. Swissport Tanzania Limited gained 0.67 percent to settle at TZS 7,550, Tanzania Breweries Limited surged by 0.13 percent to close at TZS 15,150 and Jubilee Holdings Limited traded at TZS 10,150 after soaring by 0.10 percent.

On the other hand, Acacia Mining Limited emerged as the top losers’ after losing 5.11 percent with a closing price of TZS 7,800 and National Media Group shrink by 1.80 percent to settle at TZS 3,280. Tanzania Cigarette Company ended at TZS 16,300 after falling by 0.61 percent and National Microfinance Bank declined by 0.34 percent to trade at TZS 2,890.
