Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — On the last trading day of the week, Casablanca Bourse closed in the negative district. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) fell by 1.49 percent to close at 9,062.19 points (with a year-to-date performance to -5.79 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 464.541 billion (a decrease of MAD 6,026 million  or US$623 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 470.567). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 158.173 million.

Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,412.39 points (sagged by 1.50 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index plunged by 0.97 percent to close at 7,942.01 points (-9.96 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index plummeted by 1.57 percent to end at 7,603.08 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -5.68 percent).

In term of sector indices, top gainers were Chemical, Electricity and Materials, Software & Computer Services sector indices surged by 4.08 percent, 1.80 percent and 1.33 percent respectively. On the negative side, Holding Companies sector index (sagged by 5.25 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -18.32 percent), Construction & Building Materials sector index (tumbled by 4.27 percent to end at 4.25 percent year-to-date return) and Real Estate sector index (sagged by 3.54 percent to end at 9,562.56 levels).

Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, DISWAY surged by 9.97 percent to end at MAD 197.90 and ALUMINIUM MAROC soared by 5.95 percent to settle at MAD 1,176.00. MAGHREBAIL also rose by 5.61 percent or MAD 35.00 with closing price of MAD 659.00 as well as SNEP climbed by 5.16 percent to conclude at MAD 111.00. However, ALLIANCES and EQDOM plunged by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 45.45) and 6.00 percent (to trade at MAD 1,128.00) respectively. HOLCIM MARCO and DOUJA PROM ADDOHA also sagged by 6.00 percent (with closing price of MAD 1,975.00) and crashed by 6.00 percent (to settle at MAD 24.91) respectively.
