Mauritius Equity Watch | 1 July 2015: Mauritius equity market start July on bearish mood, down US$25 million

Port Louis, Mauritius (Capital Markets in Africa):- Mauritius equity markets started the month on bearish note, reversing yesterday gains. The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) somersaulted by 0.40 percent or 7.89 points to close 1,973.01 points and the SEM10 index plunged by 0.89 percent or 3.38 points to end at 375.06 points. The market capitalization was recorded at MUR 219.354 billion, by falling MUR 877 million (as against MUR 220.231 recorded at yesterday’s trading session) and overall total volume trade was recorded at 19.582 million with turnover amounted to MUR 72.111 million.

The most active traded securities were SBM Holdings Limited with 18.737 million volume and turnover of MUR 16.859 million and CIEL Limited recorded 361,640 traded securities with turnover of MUR 2.568 million. Equally, LUX RESORTS Limited had 297,466 traded stocks and turnover recorded at MUR 18.812 million and MCB GROUP ended with a volume of 77,000 traded shares with turnover of MUR 16.513 million.

The market sentiment was negative today, as the market breadth (advancers/decliners ratio) calculated at 0.38x with 3 price advancers and 8 price decliners. On the advancers’ table were Phoenix Beverage Limited Mauritius gained 7.69 percent to close at MUR 350.00 and ENL Commercial Limited rose by 2.36 percent to settle at MUR 21.70 and OMNICANE Limited climbed by 1.37 percent to end at MUR 74.00.

On the decliners’ side, CIEL Limited went down by 1.39 percent to trade at MUR 7.10 and MCB GROUP plunged by1.38 percent to trade at MUR 214.00. Likewise, SBM Holdings plummeted by 1.10 percent to close at MUR 0.90 and TERRA Limited tumbled by 0.92 percent to close at MUR 32.20.

However, the DEMEX index slightly gained 0.01 percent or 0.02 points to close at 206.84 points and market capitalization of MUR 49.157 billion, by slightly adding MUR 5 million and market turnover of MUR 3.645 million exchanged in 27,171 traded securities. BYCHEMEX added by 1.11 percent to trade at MUR 9.10 and CONSTANCE gained 0.40 percent to trade at MUR 127.00. On the other hand, TROPICAL PAR (P) and ENL Limited (P) went down by 4.21 percent to close at MUR 182.00 and 0.16 percent to end at MUR 30.40 respectively.
