Cote d’Ivoire Market Watch | June 4th 2015: BRVM equity extends uptrend, market cap adds XOF 20 billion

Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Thursday, higher than the previous day. BRVM 10 index rose from 275.83 to 276.34 points, a gain of 0.18%. BRVM Composite index gained 0.30% to 271.13 against 270.31 points previously.  Likewise, the equity market capitalization added XOF 20 billion to close at XOF 6,690.28 billion compared with yesterday’s market capitalization of XOF 6,670.14 billion.

In term of market activity, today trading activity improved compared to previous day. The total volume was recorded at 189,641 compared to 49,181 volume recorded at previous trading sessions and total traded value was recorded at XOF 792.52  million (against XOF 740.75 million recorded at yesterday trading session). Out of the 39 listed securities 27 were traded in 197 transactions. In addition, today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo with 156,238 traded shares (accounted for almost 83 percent of the total volume). SONATEL SENEGAL recorded the highest turnover of XOF 501.65 million. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 20.11 percent and Price Earning Ratio was recorded at 23.41.

Looking at the market price movers’, out of the 27 traded securities there were 9 price gainers, 8 price losers and 9 remained unchanged, hence market breathe end on a positive note. On the one hand, TRACTAFRIC MOTORS COTE D’IVOIRE advanced by 7.50 percent to close at XOF 227,900 and SAFCA COTE D’IVOIRE surged by 7.32 percent to conclude at XOF 27,700. Likewise, TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE climbed by 5.26 percent to settle at XOF 238,945 and UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIRE added 2.65 percent with a closing price of XOF 26,690.

On the other hand, FILTISAC COTE D’IVOIRE declined by 3.70 percent to trade at XOF 26,000 and BICI COTE D’IVOIRE fell by 2.22 percent to close at XOF 88,000. Still on losers’ chart, BANK OF AFRICA NIGER and ONATEL BURKINA FASO declined by 1.78 percent and 1.15 percent to close at XOF 27,100 and XOF 8,600 respectively.

From sector viewpoint, financial services, agriculture and distribution sector indices surged by 0.58 percent, 0.28 percent and 1.94 percent respectively. On the other hand, public utilities sector index plummeted by 0.12 percent while transportations and miscellaneous sector indices remained flat.
