Cote D’Ivoire Equity Market | 1 Sep 2015: BRVM indices lower and market cap US$33 million down

Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Capital Markets in Africa — BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Tuesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 298.02 to 295.58 points, a drop of 0.82 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.26 percent to 295.56 against 296.33 points previously.

The equity market capitalization plunged by XOF 19 billion (about US$33 million) to close at XOF 7,293 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,312 billion.

The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 124,479 traded stocks relative to 25,668 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 2,218 million (against XOF 679.512 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 28 traded securities via 259 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was SONATEL SENEGAL with 35,844 traded securities (accounted for almost 30 percent of the total volume). SONATEL SENEGAL recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 907.40 million contributing nearly about 41 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 7.7 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 23.56.

Among the 28 traded securities today, 12 stocks experienced price gains, 12 witnessed price drops and 4 stocks price remained unchanged relative to previous closing price. BANK OF AFRICA BURKINA FASO emerged as the top price mover by soaring by 6.17 percent to end at XOF 110,000. FILTISAC COTE D’IVOIRE grew by 5.45 percent at XOF 29,000 and CIE COTE D’IVOIRE traded at XOF 84,000 after jumping by 3.07 percent. BOLLORE AFRICA LOGISTIC COTE D’IVOIRE share price surged by 2.43 percent to close at XOF 190,000 and TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 24,950 with 1.84 percent gains.

SAPH COTE D’IVOIRE plummeted by 4.00 percent to settle at XOF 12,000 as the biggest loser and SMB COTE D’IVOIRE slumped by 2.50 percent to close at XOF 19,500. Likewise, ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION TOGO plummeted by 1.72 percent to close at XOF 57 and PALM COTE D’IVOIRE crashed by 1.32 percent to trade at XOF 15,000. SONATEL SENEGAL traded at XOF 25,200 after crashing by 1.18 percent.

From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index rose by 1.10 percent at 164.20 points but public utilities sector index plunged by 0.73 percent to end at 800.53 points. The distribution sector index surged by 0.76 percent to end at 560.54 points but financial services sector index fell by 0.51 percent to end at 109.07 points. The Agriculture sector index went down by 1.68 percent to trade at 197.35 points. Transportation sector index rose by 2.38 to end at 925.22 but miscellaneous sector index remained steady at 561.79 points.
